About the Founder
"We are going to invest in people and we are going to invest in communities" Brian K. Rice
In 2010, 3 years before moving back to Birmingham, Brian set aside the entire year to prepare his community building plan for a neighborhood in Birmingham. 8 years later in 2018, Brian finally realized that the vision would take place in the Ensley community of Birmingham, AL.
Brian has always believed that if something bothers you enough, then maybe you are the person who is responsible for doing something about it. The following areas bothers Brian (B. Rice) the most and they are all attached to Distressed Communities: (1) Distressed Neighborhoods (2) Economic Development (3) Education Development, (4) Workforce Development, (5) Entrepreneurship Development and (6) High Crime
Brian is dedicated to the cause before him and he is determined to do all he can to help create a healthy and balanced community in Ensley first. Some say he is not qualified because he didn't major in Urban Planning or Social Sciences and to those people, he says, "we are all qualified to make a positive impact on our communities."
Brian K. Rice is from the north side of Birmingham. Brian worked 15+ years in engineering, technical business development, and construction development. In 2009 as his passion grew for community work, in preparation for his journey back to Birmingham to lead his vision for Heroes Bridge, Inc., outside of work, Brian started researching community programs daily while still living in Charlotte, NC. Brian soon started practicing his public speaking skills with youth development presentations, then career development presentations for college students, then he started leading young professional non profit causes in each city he lived in. Brian became known more and more for his mentoring and his passion for the community more than he did his engineering and that was by design as he attached himself to community development more and more in preparation for his vision to launch Heroes Bridge, Inc. in Birmingham, AL.
